2nd Annual Every Student Every Day Counts! Design Challenge

On July 25, high school teams from across the city came together at Anacostia Neighborhood Library to generate solutions to attendance barriers. The event was facilitated by the DC Equity Lab and throughout the day, important stakeholders joined in. Mayor Bowser gave remarks at the event saying, “As we continue making unprecedented investments in our public and public charter schools, we need to ensure that our young people are making it to every class, every single day. Consistent student attendance is a citywide challenge that touches every grade level, ward, and school, but it is a challenge we can overcome. By working together as a community and involving students in the process, we can ensure that the Every Day Counts! campaign is a success and that more students are benefiting from the investments we are making in our public schools.

After a thoughtful morning focused on exploring equity, school teams then used design thinking to understand and identify an attendance problem that affects their school community. The teams brainstormed, prototyped and presented solutions in a gallery walk with stakeholders. See the article about the Design Challenge here!”
