Every Day Counts!

Every Day Counts! is a citywide effort initiated by Mayor Bowser to ensure every student attends school every day. Going to school every day is critical to our students realizing their hopes and dreams. Every Day Counts! will bring together the entire community to support students and families through a public awareness campaign, a Taskforce coordinating public agencies and stakeholders, and investments in data-driven strategies to increase attendance.

Did You Know...

Missing just 10% of the school year in early grades can leave many students struggling throughout elementary school.
By sixth grade, missing 18 days a year is strongly linked to dropping out of high school.
Chronic absence affects every grade level and can set preschoolers back for an incredibly long period of time.
Missing just two days a month can put students at risk of academic failure.

The Every Day Counts! Attendance Summit will bring together educators, students, families, and community leaders for a full-day convening on Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at Ron Brown College Preparatory High School. Participants will gain knowledge of research, local resources, and best practices that can help them improve student attendance in their neighborhoods. Throughout the day, participants will engage with governmental leadership, deepen connections through working sessions, and learn direct insights from students and families.
